must have been a hell of a leak. What car did this happen on?

96 I30 (Maxima) and yeah the leak is pretty bad. There are two valve cover gaskets that are 20 years old, and one of them is very close to the alternator, which has turned brown.

I have to jump start every time I want to start the car, and now I have keep my foot on the gas at all times or else it will shut off.

Nah, I’m pretty sure it’s your blinker fluid reservoir - one leak in those will wreak havoc on a car.

Alternators have their highs and lows - have you tried talking to it to find out what’s you can do to help? It’s obviously stuck in a rut.

Not if it’s a Bose alternator. No highs, no lows, must be Bose!

Head gasket is a pita but the alternator iant too bad its the only “major”repair my maxima’s ever had besides cv shafts and clutch and both were my fault. (Huge audio system and lots and lots of clutch dropping burnouts)

haha cool cool

yeah I hope I won’t need head gaskets! The alternator looks reasonable to access

Transverse V6 engines suck, but the car was cheap and likely the best car I could get for three digits. Otherwise the gaskets would be easy because you don’t have to take half the engine apart to get to the back.

My car most likely needs a battery, alternator, the leaky gaskets, and a knock sensor. For good measure, I’ll also replace the spark plugs. The only parts I don’t have are the battery and alternator. Right now the battery is over 4 years old and it’s a cheap undersize Walmart battery.

Hesitation only started today, so I have to keep my foot on the gas at all times.

Mine is automatic, but at least it’s got the LSD :)
